May 2021 Local Elections

Last month, the government announced that May’s local elections will be going ahead as planned despite the pandemic, this includes those postponed in 2020. Due to the number of people shielding and those classed as vulnerable, there will most likely be an increase in postal votes this year. 

 

Elections

Local councils: Not all councils will be in this year's election cycle, the list of councils running an election this year can be found HERE.

 

London Mayoral election: this includes voting for London Assembly members

 

Mayoral elections: This includes both combined authority and local authority mayors, though does not affect many areas. The list of mayoral elections can be found HERE.

 

Police and crime commissioners (England and Wales). The list of areas with a commissioner seeking election can be found HERE

 

Scottish Parliament: all seats

Senedd Cymru/Welsh Parliament: all seats

 

Deadline dates

Application deadline in England and Wales

The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Tuesday 20 April. You must also be registered to vote by midnight on Monday 19 April.

 

Application deadline in Scotland

The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Tuesday 6 April. You must also be registered to vote by midnight on Monday 19 April.
