An information session was held at Holyrood on Wednesday 31 May, 6-8pm. The event was organised by the NFSP to allow MSPs to talk to Postmasters and understand the issues they were facing, and hear of potential solutions. One of the key issues raised by Postmasters was the current threat of the DVLA being removed from counters across the UK.
The evening was hosted by Michael Marra MSP, who is very keen on finding solutions to help keep the Post Office network viable for the future, which is especially important in rural areas. Calum Greenhow gave a speech, which called on MSPs to build a relationship with their local subpostmasters, given post offices are central to every community.
The evening was a great success with a good number of MSPs and Postmasters in attendance.
The MSPs in attendance included:
Carol Mochan – Scottish Labour, South Scotland Region
Colin Smyth – Scottish Labour, South Scotland Region
Paul O’Kane – Scottish Labour, West Scotland Region
Sarah Boyack – Scottish Labour, Lothian Region
Liam MacArthur – Scottish Liberal Democrats, Orkney Islands (also the Deputy Presiding Officer)
Douglas Ross – Scottish Conservatives, Highlands and Islands Region (Leader)
Craig Hoy – Scottish Conservatives, South Scotland Region
Murdo Fraser – Scottish Conservatives, Mid Scotland and Fife Region
Maggie Chapman – Scottish Greens, North East Scotland Region
