PO ANNOUNCE INCREASE PER TRANSACTION FOR POSTMASTERS - BUT IT'S NOT ENOUGH

Apr 3, 2023 |

NFSP Communications Team

The NFSP has been lobbying PO to gain an increase in remuneration for postmasters. While the recent announcement of an increase per transaction is a step in the right direction, the NFSP does not believe it goes far enough in light of staff cost and inflation increases.

The remuneration decision was passed by the PO's board, including the two postmaster non-Executive directors, but was not negotiated with the NFSP.

PO increased Remuneration rates:

  • 20% increase for banking deposits.
  • Creation of a fund for town and city centre Mains branches impacted by Covid and reduced sales.
  • 9.5% increase in outreach remuneration to account for fuel inflation and wage costs.
  • 3% increase in fixed remuneration for SPSO (Community) branches.
  • 12.7% increase in Mailwork remuneration.
  • Rates for Secure Card Collect product will increase from £1.75 to £2.25.
  • New £5 payment for uncollected cards.
  • Doubling rates for Payout until March 2023 to be maintained in the next financial year.

Any increase in remuneration is welcome but postmasters do not need to be told that it falls well short of what is needed. The NFSP will be meeting with Post Office in the coming weeks to work towards a package of increase that realistically meet the short and long term needs of the network.
