Jon Bumphrey's comment: The articles and news that are delivered to you in The SubPostmaster need to be relevant and interesting to our lives as postmasters.

Feb 5, 2025 |

Hi all,

As Joint Members’ Editor of The SubPostmaster magazine, I feel a great privilege as well as a great responsibility to shed light on subjects that affect our livelihoods.

You should by now have received your first edition of the relaunched magazine. I hope that the new format will make it more organised and easier to read. I am also excited by all of the content that we have planned.

The articles and news that are delivered to you in The SubPostmaster need to be relevant and interesting to our lives as postmasters.

I also want every one of you to feel that this is your publication. We want to know from you; what are the issues that you face in running your branch? What would you like to know the answers to? And what suggestions do you have that can make improvements to our network? Send us your questions, thoughts, and suggestions about the things that matter to you. Let us together use this platform to resolves issues we face, create a customer experience that reflects our collective knowledge and improve the service that we offer in our offices.

During my time with Post Office Ltd, I have often heard long-standing employees and colleagues say, “if you cut me open, it’ll read Post Office!”. The same is true for me. I am a fourth-generation postmaster. My family and I have owned/managed around 20 branches over the last 100-or-so years. This gives me valuable insight into where the Post Office has come from, where it is headed, and what it means to its staff, customers, and communities.

I took on this role with Tim Allen to have the opportunity to have firsthand access to the people who make a lot of the decisions that affect what we do every day in our branches.

As a mantra for everything that we do in life, I believe it’s far easier to take people on ‘your journey’ if people understand the reasons behind why we do things a certain way. Tim and I will endeavor to give postmasters and team leaders valuable insights in The SubPostmaster to the ‘why’ in what we do.

Please let us know your thoughts on the new-look SubPostmaster by emailing communications@nfsp.org.uk

Regards,

Jon Bumphrey
