An estimated £812m was spent in small businesses across the UK on Small Business Saturday, an 8% increase on last year, according to research commissioned by principal supporter American Express, revealed support for the campaign came from 90% of local councils – a 3% increase on 2017.
Small Business Saturday also drew high engagement on social media. Tweets sent on the day reached more than 100 million people, with #SmallBizSatUK and #SmallBusinessSaturday trending in the UK’s top five throughout the day.
