North West Region NFSP Mail Segregation Officer Alan White organised a worthwhile visit for members to the Manchester Mail Centre.
Timed just before the coronavirus crisis hit the UK, the visit’s goal was to create a collaboration between Royal Mail (RM), Post Office Ltd (PO) and subpostmasters/agents. While promoting a greater understanding of the issues and practical requirements of all parties, the aim was also to improve the efficiency of day-to-day business activities.
Joe Manning, RM Quality and Customer, PO Operations Contract Lead, chaired the meeting, and Julia Bateson, Area Collections Manager, Manchester Mail Centre and Victoria Allsop, Area Manager PO Retail Network Team, also participated. The NFSP’s Alan White, with the help of Regional Secretary Bhavna Desai, arranged for 11 Greater Manchester subpostmasters/agents to take part.
Following a presentation by RM, the main areas of concern, including the correct procedure for mail after the Latest Acceptance Time has passed and PPI handling, were discussed (further details can be found on page 29). This was followed by a lively round of Q&As and the meeting ended with the highlight of the afternoon, an operational tour of the Mail Centre.
NFSP Operations Director Paul Simmonds said: “These visits have been very successful in turning around mails segregation in areas of the country where targets are being missed. Once the coronavirus crisis is over, we hope to organise more visits nationally, as they are a great opportunity to educate subpostmasters and their teams.”
