Subpostmasters in Northern Ireland have been recruited in the fight to protect vulnerable people from scammers.
The ScamwiseNI Partnership teamed up with the Post Office (PO) and NFSP earlier this week
(4 March), to launch the ‘Scam? Ask Us’ Initiative at PO branches in Derry/Londonderry and across the North of Northern Ireland.
The initiative, said to be the first of its kind in the UK, will encourage PO customers to ask counter staff for help if they are concerned they are falling victims to a scam.
Speaking at the launch, NFSP CEO Calum Greenhow said: “For our part, as a trade association representing private businesses that operate post offices, the National Federation of Subpostmasters will lend its support and do all we can to highlight to our members how to spot any irregularities or if our customers are doing anything unusual.”
A multimedia campaign will promote the initiative including radio, poster and social media ads to raise awareness of scams.
As part of ‘Scam? Ask Us’, PO has also developed four short videos which can be accessed online at:
ScamwiseNI includes the Northern Ireland Police, PO, Royal Mail and various faith, youth and pensioner groups.
